How Multispectral Cameras Improve Perimeter Security

September 19, 2021  Sponsored by by Teledyne FLIR

When tackling the challenge of perimeter protection, there are many factors to consider. System integrators are faced with finding technologies that monitor wide areas, perform in harsh environments, and accurately classify threats. Traditional sensors can be negatively affected by rain, snow, fog, smoke and other unfavorable weather. Poor imaging conditions, such as minimal light or complete darkness, also adversely impact video surveillance and analytics. The result is false alarms and video solutions that yield grainy, indistinguishable video where your security customers are unable to see approaching threats and are vulnerable to breaches. Today, system integrators can improve client satisfaction by deploying industry-leading like the new Teledyne FLIR Triton™ FH-Series multispectral fixed cameras that combine both thermal imaging and 4K visible imaging in one solution for superior threat assessment and intruder identification at the perimeter.

Simplified Installation
Traditionally, system integrators have mounted both thermal and visible cameras along fence line. By deploying the Triton FH-Series, system integrators gain a two-in-one camera solution with both thermal and visible imagers under one housing. As a result, installers only have to work with one Ethernet and cable connection for simplified installation, shorter labor time and reduced project expenses.

Always On, Always Working
Featuring a thermal sensor with 640 × 512 resolution supporting <30mK sensitivity, an optical imager with 4K resolution, and built-in convolutional neural network (CNN) analytics, the Triton FH-Series gives system integrators peace of mind by providing consistent, accurate detection and classification of human and vehicle threats in the harshest environments. By deploying the Triton FH-Series, security personnel gain a ruggedized, fixed camera that is always on, always working, and always assessing the perimeter. This means, that in any lighting or weather condition, the security camera will be able to capture events as they unfold, share verified alerts, deliver actionable insights to appropriate personnel, and collect detailed information for forensic review.

Increased Detection Accuracy
Airports, data centers, utilities, oil and gas enterprises and other critical infrastructure entities benefit from the Triton FH-Series’ highly-accurate convolutional neural network (CNN)-based video analytics for both thermal and visible spectrums, which minimize false alarms and aid in geo-locating threats for superior situational awareness. Notably, the on-board scheduling tool enables the security operator to select the type of analytics used to make detections based on time of day, business hours, and seasonality. This functionality ensures greater customization of the cameras to suit specific applications. Additionally, the analytics enable your security customers to detect intruders in challenging poses, such as crawling and occlusion, as well as moving in high or low speeds.

Early Fire Detection
Radiometric versions of the Triton FH-Series opens the door to new business opportunities for system integrators to sell product to clients in need of early fire detection and prevention. The Triton FH-Series R continuously monitors for temperature changes or hot spots in storage containers, warehouses, combustible piles, landfills, and waste bunkers. When a hot spot or change has been detected, the contactless temperature measurement is sent to the operator through a connected Video Management System (VMS) for instantaneous assessment and deployment of response tactics.

The Triton FH-Series R is also optimal for wildfire management. As visible cameras cannot see through smoke, thermal security cameras are valuable tools that help firefighters detect spot fires quickly to manage containment and evacuation efforts. These cameras equip firefighters with critical information and real-time conditions, instead of the hours old information they often work with.

Enhanced Cyber Protection
Built with cyber security in mind, both models of the Triton FH-Series are built with the latest cyber defense features including: IEEE 802.1x authentication, Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol, Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), user authentication (eliminating backdoor accounts), access control via Firewall, digest authentication, firmware updates and configuration lockdown.

Optimized Interoperability
Designed for maximum interoperability, Triton FH-Series cameras are ONVIF® Conformant S/G/T.
Security operators can tightly integrate Triton FH-Series cameras with FLIR United VMS and many major third-party VMS systems for real-time alarming and clip playback. First responders are saved valuable seconds during alarm events and thus, have more time for evidentiary review to determine the most effective next steps.
