Milestone intros Analog-to-Digital service

Milestone Systems, the open platform company in IP video management software (VMS), has announced a new licensing concept for analog cameras used with the forthcoming XProtect 2014 family of VMS products.

In the new licensing concept, only one hardware device license is needed per analog-to-IP encoder unit, regardless of the number of analog cameras connected to the encoder unit. The new Milestone licensing concept will be in effect from May 21 for all XProtect 2014 VMS products.

Based on open platform technology, Milestone XProtect VMS is compatible with more than 200 encoders from over 50 different manufacturers, giving users a wide variety of solutions to choose from.

This new licensing concept facilitates a smooth migration to digital video for customers using analog cameras. They can get all the benefits of using IP video management software at a cost-effective price, even when using analog cameras. Furthermore, the transition from analog to IP can be done with the most convenient timing for the customer. The analog infrastructure can run parallel to new IP technology, making the transition in a gradual approach. Analog cameras can be swopped for digital cameras as needed.

Christian Bohn, Milestone Systems VP Corporate Marketing & Alliances, says: “This new licensing model is an evolutionary opportunity for customers using analog cameras. They can get access to all the benefits of digital video management in a cost-effective way while still using analog cameras. Customers can migrate to IP solutions at their own speed while keeping the consistency of one VMS platform that scales easily over time. I see this as the easy way into the digital future with open platform technology.”
