Mall of America (MOA) in Minnesota recently announced upgrades to its surveillance and security systems.

The retail facility opened in 1992 and draws 32 million visitors annually. A popular tourist destination, it comprises 5.6 million square feet housing 50 restaurants, more than 500 stores, mini golf, arcades, the state’s largest aquarium, and the largest indoor theme park in the U.S.

Working with integration partner Collins Electrical Construction Co., MOA’s recent security upgrades include intelligent Axis cameras integrated into a Genetec VMS. Cameras deployed include AXIS Q63 PTZ Camera Series, AXIS M50 PTZ Camera Series, and AXIS P37 and P47 Panoramic Camera Series. MOA’s team of security officers are also equipped with Axis body-worn cameras.

“Bringing our comprehensive surveillance and security system into modern times with the addition of Axis cameras has only made our operations stronger and more efficient,” said Will Bernhjelm, vice-president of security, Mall of America, in a statement. “There are so many different environments within Mall of America, and the new cameras provide us with the advanced features and flexibility we need to meet each area’s unique surveillance challenges.”
