In October, Hikvision hosted a contingent of international journalists, providing tours of its global Hangzhou, China, headquarters and offering insight into its growth trajectory and future plans. According to IHS research, the company accounted for 16.5 per cent of the global video surveillance market in 2014 and is growing at an estimated 60 per cent rate annually (versus an estimated 10 per cent for the market overall).

A customer showcase centre located at Hikvision's HQ demonstrates the vertical markets it addresses (education, health-care, transportation, banking, etc.) as well as solutions that are less well known to the North American market like home automation products. The company is also expanding, building an addition to its already sizeable HQ that opened just two years ago, as well as pursuing an international expansion strategy it calls “Glocalization” — global growth with a local focus. The company, for example, opened a Montreal facility earlier this year. For more on Hikvision, read the Nov/Dec issue of SP&T News, available in the coming weeks.
