CANASA Update: Anticipation is high for Security Canada Central

October 15, 2023  By Patrick Straw

Patrick Straw, CANASA

This summer was incredibly busy for the CANASA team and our regional councils.

In September, we held our final charity golf tournament in Quebec for this year and I am happy to say it was sold out for golfers as well as for sponsorships.

We have had record numbers for all of our tournaments across the country and CANASA was able to make some significant donations to tournament charities, all of which were selected by the local regional councils. The generosity of participants was exemplary and something we should all be very proud of.

Priority No. 1 right now is to encourage more Canadian colleges to put on what are now being called “micro programs.” The program currently running at Conestoga College has already produced graduate students. I have spoken with two companies who hired directly from the college and are pleased with the results.

I am currently working with two more colleges in Ontario who have expressed an interest and I am confident that we will be able to get these programs together for the 2024 school schedule. We have also received interest from a school in the Maritimes. If anyone can recommend a contact from a school in your area, just pass the information on to me and I will take it from there (pstraw@canasa.org).

Security Canada Central

Canada’s largest security show is just around the corner. All indications are that it is going to be extremely busy, with record booth sales and excellent registration numbers. Make sure that you visit our website and register (www.securitycanada.com). Also, be sure to check out the educational programs which are held in conjunction with the show by several of our vendor partners.

Are you a CANASA member?

A recent trend is companies who had left CANASA, because they were unaware of how much we do for the security industry, are now coming back. If this is your situation, I would like to speak with you and let you know that we are all working to help our members with many aspects of their business. Just reach out via email and we can set up a phone call or a virtual meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you all in October at Security Canada Central!

Patrick Straw is the executive director of CANASA (www.canasa.org).
