Tenants lose access to cameras after cable upgrade

Tenants in Toronto Community Housing can no longer access their buildings’ televised “lobby channel” unless they subscribe to Rogers cable network. The Toronto Star reports that the change is the result of Rogers upgrading its cable networks at more than 200 Toronto Community Housing apartment properties.

One tenant told the Star lobby channel “is a must” for apartment tenants “because it provides an extra level of security and deters would-be criminals.”

Separate from the lobby cameras, the housing provider has more than 5,000 security cameras installed in its communities. By 2020, Toronto Community Housing plans to replace all older analog cameras with new, high-resolution digital cameras that have more responsive features, including better imaging in low-light conditions.
