ADT announced Wednesday that it has completed the sale of ADT Security Services Canada, Inc. to Telus Corp. The transaction comprises all of ADT Canada’s operations and assets.

“We are pleased to have completed the divestiture of our Canadian operations, which was a pivotal step towards sharpening our focus on our core U.S. businesses,” said Jim DeVries, President and CEO, ADT, in a statement.

“I would like to thank all of the employees of ADT Canada for their dedication and tireless commitment to supporting the business and our customers. As ADT looks ahead, we are excited about our ability to capitalize on the many opportunities in the areas of smart home integration, the expansion of the home security business into new demographics and ADT’s growth in commercial security. These emerging opportunities are ideal for leveraging the trusted ADT brand as we continue generating strong free cash flow to drive shareholder value over the long term.”

“On behalf of the entire Telus team, I am extremely pleased to welcome our newest customers and team members into the Telus family,” said Darren Entwistle, president and CEO of Telus in a separate statement.

“The acquisition of ADT Canada builds on Telus’ commitment to leverage our globally recognized wireless and PureFibre networks and industry-leading customer service to improve the lives of Canadians, bringing state-of-the-art connectivity, control, and convenience to more homes and businesses, supported by our commitment to privacy and security.”

Entwistle also highlighted the role that ADT Canada assets may play in Telus’ home health-care strategy.

“This acquisition supports the continued advancement of our consumer health strategy which includes helping Canadians, notably elderly citizens, enjoy their independence for longer,” he said. “With innovative products such as virtual care, home health monitoring and the Living Well Companion, more Canadians are now empowered to live independently while still receiving critical support, monitoring, and care from their team of health professionals from the comfort of their own home.”

“The automated home and business is the future,” added Jason Macdonnell, president of Telus Security and Automation. “For our residential customers, this acquisition enhances the holistic suite of services we offer to meet our customers end-to-end connectivity needs, including the number one Internet technology with Telus PureFibre, world-leading wireless connectivity, the best home Internet coverage with Boost WiFi, world-class entertainment offerings through Optik TV, and advanced health technology services. For businesses, whether they are small start-ups or national enterprises, we are enabling them to deliver better automation, cost management, and higher quality products and services. Importantly, all of our home and business security customers benefit from savings on insurance, and improved environmental efficiency and sustainability.”

Telus said that it is working with ADT over the coming months as the businesses are integrated. During the transition period, ADT Canada customers will continue to receive their regular service and will be contacted by Telus at a point in the future regarding service offerings and enhancements going forward.

The Telus-ADT deal, worth an estimated $700 million, was announced last month.
