Security Summit Canada: Something for everyone

The two-day event featured keynote addresses from John Mack, Imperial Capital on the state of the security market, as well as presentations from Veronica Kitchen, University of Waterloo, on the Trump administration and its impact on security in Canada, and a closing keynote from Claudiu Popa, Informatica Corp., on cyber-security hits and misses of the year thus far.

Five panel discussions were featured across the two days:

• The current state of video surveillance, featured Mahesh Saptharishi, Avigilon; Colin Bodbyl, UCIT Online Security; and Jimmy Palatsoukas, Genetec. Panelists discussed hot button issues such as analytics, integration, training options, “hot” techhology, “misunderstood” technology, the role of cyber and more.

• The power of integration panel featured Tim Saunders, G4S Canada; Ted Reid, Paladin Technologies; and Paul Georges, Underwriters Security Controls. Panelists focused on several major issues such as contracts, customer service, integrated guarding, relationships with vendors, privacy issues and networked products.

• Canada’s threat landscape featured Bonnie Butlin, Security Partners’ Forum; Victor Goodman, INKAS Security Services; and Han Koren, AFIMAC Global. Topics discussed included threat mitigation and threat risk assessment; foreign and domestic terrorism; emergency management; cyber threats and more.

• The residential security market panel was moderated by John Mack, Imperial Capital, and featured panelists Graham Wood, Fluent Home; Mike Chaudhary, Alarm Guard (ADT Master Dealer); and Victor Harding, Harding Security Services. The panel discussed home automation, RMR, DIY systems, IoT, account attrition issues, and much more.

• The end user perspective panel featured Luciano Cedrone, Brookfield Property; Brian Claman, GWL Realty Advisors; and Malcolm Chivers, Canadian Bankers Association. Panelists focused on issues affecting property management, co-operation between facilties and across organizations, managing stakeholder expectations, conversations and relationships with the C-Suite, working with suppliers and contractors, and other issues that impact security decision-makers.
