Security industry mourns the loss of Ken Hall

The security industry mourned the passing of a friend and colleague April 5 when Ken Hall lost his long battle with cancer.

Hall, who was 51, passed away peacefully at his home in Toronto. He was
well known in the industry, serving as the vice-president of ADI North
America and was most recently president of LRG North, a
manufacturer’s rep firm.

Throughout his career Hall was a respected security professional and mentored many newcomers to the business.

For those he worked with at ADI, Hall was someone known for his willingness to listen and provide leadership.

“I owe a lot to Ken. He introduced me to the industry and I worked with
him for 14 years,” says Rob O’Brien, director of national accounts for
ADI.

Colleagues say Hall had a strong sense of honesty, fairness and was a “true leader of men.”

“He was my mentor and he will be sorely missed. He was a good friend,”
said John King, ADI sales manager for Western Canada who worked with
him for 15 years. “He did more things for other people than for
himself.”

Others remember Hall as someone they learned the business from.

“Ken was the national sales manager at Chubb and I was a rookie sales
rep back in 1991. Ken is someone I will always consider a friend and
mentor. He is a legend,” said Patrick Soo, director of Canadian
operations with Monitronics based in Vancouver. “I believe he coined
the phrase ‘work hard so we can play hard’.”

Hall worked closely over the years with high school friend Chris
Welling, now vice-president of sales at Honeywell Canada. The two both grew up in Scarborough,
Ont.

“Out of school we worked together at Burns Electronic Security which
then became Wells Fargo in 1980. Then when he was at Chubb I was at ADT
and when he was running ADI I also worked closely with him,” says
Welling.

Hall will also be missed by his wife Jacquelyn (Baker), his mother
Bridget (Bride) Muirhead, Sisters Gloria (Douglas) Lamb, Janet (James)
Jones, Sherry (Mike) Mailot, Suzanne (Brian) Mater, Lauren (Peter)
Mahoney, sisters-in-law Kathleen (Mike) Strath and Danielle Baker. He
will be remembered by his brother Brian Hall, brothers-in-law Chris
(Patricia) Baker, Bruce (Stephanie) Galay, lifetime friend Carla Hall,
along with Jacquelyn’s parents: Peter and Rita Galay and Syd and LaRae
Baker.

Hall is predeceased by his father Donald Wray Hall and stepfather Jack
Muirhead. He was uncle to 15 nieces and nephews who will cherish and
miss him forever.

In memory, the family asks that donations be made to the Wellspring Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto. www.wellspring.ca
