Reports: Massive hack alleged to have compromised thousands of security cameras
March 11, 2021 By SP&T Staff
According to multiple reports, a hacker group claims to have gained access to data from Verkada and live feeds from 150,000 cameras deployed in multiple industries.
An article recently posted by BNN Bloomberg indicates that cameras inside hospitals, schools, companies, factories, prisons and police departments were affected. The group claiming responsibility for the hack said they hoped to expose the pervasiveness of surveillance systems and how easily they might be breached. A hacker who spoke for the group said they found an administrative password available online.
“We have disabled all internal administrator accounts to prevent any unauthorized access,” said a Verkada spokesperson in a statement quoted in the article. Read the full article here.
