Mircom Group wins innovation award

The Mircom Group of Companies, based in Vaughan, Ont., recently won a gold 2013 Edison Award in the Smart Systems category for its Open Graphic Navigator (Open GN).

The awards gala was held in Chicago late last month and was attended by 400 international business leaders and innovators.

Open GN is a 3D graphics based building systems monitoring tool that gives provides visualization of on-premise emergencies. Firefighters use first responders the tactical display to assess dangers and threats in a facility compromised by terrorists or environmental phenomenon.
“We are extremely honoured that OpenGN has received a gold medal from the Edison Awards,” said Jason Falbo, vice-president of engineering at Mircom, in a company statement. “We are very proud of our entire team and congratulate everyone involved in creating OpenGN.”
 
The Edison Awards, named for Thomas Edison, recognize excellence in new product and service development, marketing, human-centred design and innovation. The winners were judged by a panel of more than 3,000 peers, including business executives, past winners, academics and leaders in the fields of product development, design, engineering, science and medicine.
