Securitas Electronic Security (Securitas ES) officially opened its new Toronto headquarters Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and networking event for customers and vendor partners. Tony Byerly, Securitas ES president, based in the company's Cleveland office, presided over the ribbon-cutting with Dan Marston, senior director and general manager, Securitas ES Canada.

Security Canada Ottawa, held May 31, began with an opening session from Ottawa Police about how private businesses can work more effectively with police partners, as well as tips on how to report suspected incidences of fraud. The exhibit hall opened shortly after, showcasing exhibitors with expertise in access control, surveillance, home automation, monitoring solutions, and more. The event also hosted new CANASA appointees, national president Ellery Demedash, and executive director Patrick Straw. Past national president Richard McMullen introduced the morning session from Ottawa police. CANASA's next expo takes place in Vancouver on June 21.

G4S Canada recently held an official opening for its latest Toronto office - a facility that houses its Secure Integration division. The company hosted clients and partners, including its partner for remote concierge services UCIT Online. G4S relaunched its integration business earlier this year under the Secure Integration banner, promising investments including a new fleet of vehicles and additional technical personnel. The company plans to ramp up in Ontario first, leveraging its presence in the guarding business, then expand across the country.

Integrator of the Year winner for 2015, Paladin Security, was celebrated at an award gala in Toronto on Oct. 21. The gala, sponsored by Anixter Canada, was attended by friends, colleagues and partners from across the security industry. Paladin was chosen as the recipient of this year's award based on a perimeter protection project conducted for client BC Hydro for a site in lower mainland B.C. Ted Reid, Paladin Security Systems president, accepted the award, saying he was grateful for all the hard work and effort that went into making the award-winning project a success.

The Canadian Security Association hosted two Security Canada Expos in June: Security Canada Ottawa on June 3 and Security Canada West, in Richmond, B.C., on June 17. The Ottawa event was also the scene for CANASA's AGM where a new board was elected, a new president was appointed (Richard McMullen), and several board members received awards for their service to CANASA.
