HID Global collaborated with Dell on Latitude E-Family laptops with embedded contact less smart card readers.
By integrating the first multi-technology contact-less smart card reader into select Latitude E-Family laptops, the combination helps end-users benefit from the enhanced security of multi-factor authentication. It also gives end-users the convenience of using one card for logical and physical access control. When used in conjunction with other components of the HID on the Desktop solution the Dell Latitude E-Family laptop can help organizations improve risk management across the entire enterprise in a convenient, cost-effective and secure way.
Some Dell Latitude E-Family laptops come with a contact-less smart card reader embedded in the keyboard’s palm rest, this enables the use of an iCLASS card to authenticate to the laptop.
"Integrating contact less smart card technology in PCs with one of the top manufacturers is a major advancement for the smart card industry,” said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance.
