Recognized in the industrial development category, HID Global’s facility was formally opened in January and, when completed in 2015, will be the company’s largest facility in the region.

“It is a huge honor to be selected for this award, considering all of the companies building in or moving to Austin, and the many great facility designs that have been constructed recently,” said Jason Bohrer, vice president and general manager for HID Global’s North American Operations Center. “Completing this project in just one year from the ground up required a high level of cooperation and coordination between HID Global, government authorities, developers and local area businesses. Building such a large, complex facility in such a short period with so many advanced sustainability features is a major accomplishment, and we thank everyone involved for their role in achieving this recognition as Austin’s best industrial development project of the year.”

Serving as HID Global’s headquarters facility and the company’s North American Operations Center, the building is designed to accommodate current and future growth while also incorporating advanced sustainability features and energy efficiency innovations. It features 250,000 square feet of manufacturing, office and warehouse space on 22 acres in North Austin’s Tech Ridge area. The site was selected for its overall connectivity to the community, including proximity to public transportation, services, residential development, and employee amenities such as walking paths and general conveniences.

Facility design was focused on minimizing environmental impact with the goal of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification, and the project also supports the Austin Energy Green Building program in its mission to help lead the transformation of the building industry to a sustainable future. Key design features include high-efficiency lighting systems, low-consumption water fixtures and sustainable construction materials. Other key features include energy-efficient external doors and green interior doors and frames from HID Global parent ASSA ABLOY.

The development and construction of HID Global’s award-winning headquarters facility has been managed by a team of Austin- and Houston-area-based firms including Harvey Cleary Builders, a commercial general contractor headquartered in Houston, and Austin commercial real estate developer Live Oak-Gottesman. Austin-based Studio 8 Architects was responsible for the facility’s design, along with engineering consulting and design service partners Bury, Endeavor Real Estate Group LLC, and Carrillo Dean Landscape Architecture (CDLA). Also integral to the success of the project were Boston Industrial Consulting, as well as Lee Gross, Architect and Artisan, and the Austin Chamber of Commence, whose high level of support enabled HID Global to meet key construction milestones.

The Austin Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards program annually recognizes those individuals in the industry that take the risk to advance, preserve or positively change the community, and honors projects and transactions that have had the biggest impact on the city and its citizens.
