“We want to invite the community of developers to help make the world see how Milestone Systems’ open platform technology can ensure safety, protect assets and increase business above and beyond the world of traditional security. We believe that there are amazing ideas out there, and the Community Kickstarter Contest has proven to be a great opportunity for developers to get their ideas turned into actual products and business, “said Bjørn Skou Eilertsen, chief technology officer, Milestone Systems, in a prepared statement.

The winning concept can be an integration, added functionality, widget or code that extends the use of video in physical security or improves everyday life. Participating developers can use Milestone VMS as a visual tool, a device trigger, a base for analyzing data or to measure information that can be applied in totally new ways. The only requirement is that the solution is created using the free Milestone Integration Platform Software Development Kit and that the idea must be the contestant’s own intellectual property.

Three finalists join Milestone’s annual flagship event

Three finalists will be given free entry and an exhibitor booth at the annual Milestone Integration Platform Symposium in Nashville, Tenn., on Jan. 15, 2019. This is where the winner will be announced.

The winner will receive a prize valued at US$65,000:

  • $35,000 in global marketing activities with Milestone Systems

Who won last year?

Last year’s winner was Soko Aoki from Tokyo, Japan. Soko Aoki’s winning project was integrating Milestone Systems’ XProtect VMS with 360-enabled cameras and a head-mounted display to see omni-directions by just moving your head using RTSP and MIP drivers.

“We presented our solution, a 360-camera surveillance system with VMS at the Milestone Community Kickstarter Contest 2018, followed by a fruitful exhibition at Milestone Systems’ flagship event MIPS, during which we had the opportunity to talk to enterprise clients who showed interest in our idea and solution. The Milestone Community Kickstarter Contest enabled us to demonstrate our idea in a global context, and we highly recommend others to join the contest,” said Soko Aoki in a statement.
