Telus acquires western AlarmForce assets from Bell

Telus Friday announced it has acquired AlarmForce assets from BCE (Bell) in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan for approximately $66.5 million. In a statement, Telus said the company “looks forward to welcoming western AlarmForce customers to the Telus family and to integrating all B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan based AlarmForce employees and contractors into the Telus team…. This acquisition offers Telus a unique opportunity to leverage Telus’ robust fibre and wireless networks and expertise to continue to enhance connected home, business, security and health services for their customers. In the coming months, Telus will announce more details on its home security solutions as a component of its broadband enabled connected home strategy.”

According to a Bell statement, Telus will receive approximately 39,000 customer accounts in the affected provinces as a result of the agreement.

Regarding the closure of the original Bell deal, Rizwan Jamal, president of Bell Residential and Small Business, said, “Bell welcomes AlarmForce as we build on our position as Canada’s most trusted name in residential communications with an accelerated focus on Connected Home technology and services. Building on our leadership and scale in broadband networks and residential services distribution, installation and customer services, Bell looks forward to delivering new and innovative smart home solutions to residential customers throughout Ontario, Québec, the Atlantic region and Manitoba.”

Bell also said that AlarmForce’s CEO Graham Badun will stay on with Bell as a special advisor for the next six months to oversee the transition and integration. When the Bell deal was first announced, Badun told SP&T News that it represented a “terrific opportunity to cross-sell security and home automation and connected home type services.” The AlarmForce website has since been branded AlarmForce: A Bell Canada Company.
