ISC West 2018 kicks off
The doors opened Wednesday to the ISC West 2018 Exhibit Hall, sponsored by the Security Industry Association (SIA), at the Sands Expo in Las Vegas.
The first day saw attendees exploring the show floor, attending educational sessions and speeches, and checking out featured exhibits, including the Unmanned Security & Safety Expo sponsored by Knightscope, the Connected Security Expo, the Emerging Technology Zone, the Public Security & Safety Expo, the Connected Home sponsored by Alarm.com and the Global Expo.
Attendees can also attend SIA’s accredited educational program. Sessions included the Active Shooter Workshop, The Future of Physical Security: The Decade Ahead, The Standards Driving Biometric Adoption in Physical Security, Connected Home — The Future is Now, Creating a Smart Cities Solution by leveraging IoT, Video and Big Data, and Protecting Critical Infrastructure from Our Bad Habits.
During his keynote presentation, Dr. Douglas Maughan of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spoke about re-inventing cybersecurity R&D, detailing how DHS Science and Technology (S&T) Cybersecurity is mobilizing innovation to reduce risks and improve decision-making across homeland security operations.
At SIA’s New Product Showcase, over 120 product entries were pitched to industry experts.
IPConfigure took home top honours, recognized with the Best New Product award for its Orchid Core VMS for AXIS Camera Application Platform (ACAP). Allegion was honoured with the Judges’ Choice Award for its Von Duprin Remote Undogging Kit for Exit Devices.
Other category winners included ASSA ABLOY for its Yale nexTouch Sectional Mortise Lock, ASSA ABLOY Openings Studio Electrical Elevations and Ecoflex Electrified Exit Trim, and Axis Communications for its AXIS D2050-VE Network Radar Detector, AXIS Device Manager and an Honourable Mention for its AXIS P1280-E Thermal Network Camera.
Early this morning, the Security 5K Run/2K Walk took place. All the proceeds from the race will be contributed to Mission 500.
Friday, the final day of the show, will feature a morning keynote from Jeff Crume, Engineer and Master Inventor, IT Security Architect at IBM, Patrol Division, who will be addressing the “Dark Side of the Internet of Things.”
