Mission 500 hits a home run with security industry softball fundraiser

Baseball rivalries run deep in the metropolitan New York region. Still, on Saturday, September 12 those feelings were put aside when more than 20 competing companies came together to play ball in support of Mission 500.

As a result of donations and money raised through game sponsorships, Mission 500 was able to provide school supplies, warm clothing, soap, shampoo, books and diapers to children in the U.S. Closer to home, about 200 children in the South Bronx received school supplies for the new school year thanks to the help of game attendees, volunteers and players.

“Once again, the security industry has proven their dedication to this cause,” said George Fletcher, Advisory Board Member, Mission 500. “With more than 20 participating companies and 40 sponsors, the event was a huge success and we accomplished both of our goals – money raised and an all-around good time.”

In a spirited competition held at Overpeck County Park in northern New Jersey, the Protection Pirates defeated the Security Sluggers by a score of 12-8. Samsung Techwin America took home the MVP title for raising the greatest amount of funds. The event was organized by Samsung’s Janet Fenner, an Executive Board Member of Mission 500.

Upcoming events for Mission 500 include participation at ASIS (booth #487) in Anaheim, CA on September 28-30 and an industry service trip to Appalachia from October 28-November 1. Service projects for this trip will range from light to difficult and participants will be paired with a project that best suits their talents. The deadline to register for the trip is October 1; more information is available at http://lrgmarketing.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/M500S2015ServiceTrip.pdf.

In addition to participating in and raising money for this and other Mission 500 events, security industry professionals can support Mission 500 in a variety of ways, including volunteering to help with the Security 5K/2K at ISC West 2016 or making financial donations. All donations are tax-deductible and can be made with major credit cards and American Express loyalty points.

Now in its 8th year, Mission 500 has worked to focus security industry efforts to aid children through World Vision. World Vision, Mission 500’s parent entity, is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children, families and their communities worldwide by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. World Vision and Mission 500 work in partnership in the U.S and around the world.
