Veridin Systems hires Brampton Civic security director

John Fodor resigned his role as Director, Security and Parking with
William Osler Health Centre
 at the Brampton Civic Hospital at the end
of August and started work at Veridin Sept. 8.

Fodor joined William Osler two years ago, before the hospital was open
to the public, when he was hired away from Trillium Health Care in
Mississauga, Ont. to work for Carillion on the creation of the Brampton
Civic Hospital, one of the first public-private partnership health care
projects in the province.

Fodor said Veridin president and CEO, Colin Doe, offered him the position and he was excited by the new opportunity.

“They approached me a year ago. I always like a challenge and I viewed
it as a good move,” he says. “Veridin is in a growth mode and I will be
involved in developing a structure to service clients and managing
day-to-day operations of the company.”

Fodor also worked for three years at University Health Network in
Toronto before he went to Trillium for three years. Before that, he
worked in corrections. When he went to work for Carillion in the
development of the new $820 million Brampton Civic Hospital which
opened last fall, it was seen as a rare position in the industry given
that security was being built in from the design stage.

The hospital is managed by The Healthcare Infrastructure Company of
Canada (THICC), which provided the capital costs for construction is a
partnership between EllisDon Corp., Borealis Infrastructure Management
and Carillion Canada Inc.

The 600-bed, 1.2 million square foot hospital is monitored by 500
closed circuit video surveillance cameras and a radio frequency asset
tracking system, patient wandering system and an infant anti-abduction
system that will see all babies “tagged” to monitor their location
while in the hospital.

One of the contractual obligations requires that the facility be
maintained according to specified standards and “handed back” in good
condition at the end of the 25-year arrangement. Security is part of
the package of services provided by Carillion Services.

But Fodor says he was intrigued by the offer from Veridin and felt it was time to move on.

“I have to regrets about leaving health care. The security program is set at Brampton,” he says.

Doe, who recently bought out his business partner Grant Brewster, said
he values Fodor’s extensive experience managing staff and his extensive
knowledge of the industry.

Doe and Brewster merged their respective companies in 2004.

“Four years later we just realized we wanted to do different things,”
Doe says. “I want to grow the business into new channels. John has a
lot of experience with multi-million budgets and dealing with a
workforce of people, so he will take on the operations here at the
office which will allow me to continue to be out there doing working on
the sales end of things and growing the company.”

Veridin’s offices in Halifax and Vancouver were recently closed, but
Doe says the company continues to service nation-wide clients such as
DHL and Symcor. He is also in the process of hiring several additional
sales staff to the current seven-person shop.

“I’m a big proponent of lean management. We have 45 sub-contractors across the country."
