December 15, 2020  By  SP&T Staff

Alarm.com Monday said it has acquired Shooter Detection Systems, a provider of indoor gunshot detection technology.

SDS, founded in 2013, is the developer of the Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System, which combines acoustic and infrared sensors and proprietary algorithms that detect gunshots and communicate shooting incident details to building occupants and security teams. SDS can be integrated with existing video, access control, mass notification and alarm systems.

Alarm.com stated that the acquisition expands its portfolio of commercial solutions and provides its partners with a gunshot detection solution they can offer to their commercial and enterprise customers.

“Acquiring SDS allows us to tap into their established resources and give our partners the opportunity to capture the active shooter solutions market,” said Jeff Bedell, chief strategy and innovation officer for Alarm.com, in a company statement.

“Offering our innovative Guardian System to the expansive network of Alarm.com service providers gives them a turnkey solution for gunshot detection to meet the growing demands of their commercial customers. Our joining forces further demonstrates the commitment SDS and Alarm.com share to the safety and security of employees and businesses worldwide,” added Christian Connors, CEO of SDS.

SDS will operate as a subsidiary of Alarm.com under the existing management team. The companies said they will work together to advance product engineering and development, as well as integration with Alarm.com products.
