On Deck: SP&T News in June/July

Installation Focus:
Intrusion detection/residential

  • The extension of home automation options to the residential security market could mean increased business opportunities for security distributors, dealers and installers. SP&T News looks at a pre-programmed home-lighting control system that can interface with other residential security systems.
For security dealers and distributors, it's a way to up sell existing residential system installations and increase revenue. Until now, integrating a lighting solution into a residential security system has been a challenging and expensive process.
But the emergence of easily installed residential lighting products — either as stand-alone or integrated packages, is creating new opportunities for residential security providers.

Technology Focus:
Home Automation/Audio

  • There's been a lot of talk over the past few years about home automation, wherein homeowners can automate features such as lighting, heat and even home theatre. More security installers are interested in merging home automation with security, which could increase their value-add to current customers and bring in new ones. But how do you get started and turn yourself into a low-voltage specialist? In this game, mistakes could be costly.

Special Topic:

  • Over the years distributors have become essential partners to dealers, serving as a means run a business without having to carry costly inventory. They also provide a means to finance their business and ensure just-in-time delivery. SP&T looks at the relationship that has evolved between distributors and dealers and the top five aspects of the relationship distributors try to deliver on most.
