Capture Omniscape from Burtek Wins "Best of Show"

Top honors in the Security Industry Association Product Showcase at ISC West went to Burtek's Capture Omniscape, a 3.0 megapixel, ultra-wide angle surveillance camera and digital storage device.

Through the camera’s on-board processor, the 360-degree, super-panoramic image is unwrapped, enabling the user to simultaneously focus on multiple regions of a room, from a single vantage point utilizing four independent virtual PTZ controls and no moving parts.

When video is played back via the OmniScape DSD, the recording contains all the information from the original scene, making it possible to "go back" and virtually pan, tilt and zoom, as if viewing live images — all while continuing to record live.

Electronic security demand grows
The U.S. market for electronic security products and systems will grow 6.9 percent per year to $15.5 billion in 2010, according to Electronic Security, a new study from The Freedonia Group.  Growth will be spurred by a high perceived risk of crime (from conventional violent and property crimes to white collar crimes and terrorism) and a belief that public safety officials are overburdened.

Access controls are expected to post the strongest growth, with above average growth expected for contraband detection systems and health growth for electronic security systems.  The study is available, for $4,400 (U.S.).  For more details visit www.freedoniagroup.com.
