Education, training, sourcing and retaining qualified professionals continues to be one of the biggest challenge for security companies in this competitive industry.

CANASA is committed to assuring a prosperous future for the industry through training and investments in youth by way of the National Scholarship Program and the Alarm Technician Course.

Our Scholarship Program, now in its third year, assists dependents of CANASA members to further their education. Ten scholarships valued at $1,000 are available to be awarded annually to post-secondary students that are working towards obtaining a degree, diploma, or certification at any Canadian university, college, or post-secondary institution. We encourage candidates to reflect on the importance of the electronic security industry in the written submission that accompanies their application. Successful candidates of this program include Courtney Harmison (Tri-Ed), Jocelyn Hoevenaars (Alarmtech Security Systems), Elizabeth Callahan (Pelco by Schneider Electric) and Susan Wang (Huronia Alarm & Fire Security). The 2017 submission deadline is coming up on May 1, 2017 so be sure to get your children started on their applications.

The Alarm Technician Course (ATC), delivered online through Centennial College, allows junior and experienced technicians to gain a solid understanding of the principles of intrusion alarm installation and service. One of the greatest threats to our industry is false alarms. This program equips students with the skills to reduce false alarms with the aim of eliminating false dispatches altogether. With intakes five times per year and a self-study curriculum that allow students to complete the coursework at their own time and pace, there is always an opportunity for you and your team to jump in and improve your qualifications. The next intake begins April 3 and CANASA members save 50 per cent on the registration fees!
