Features CANASA Update Opinion
20 years of collaboration

CANASA has been very fortunate to have strong industry and media partners over the years. One partnership which continues to grow stronger is our relationship with SP&T News.

September 28, 2016  By Heather Terrence

Over the past 20 years, SP&T News staff have shown their support by volunteering their time and serving on several CANASA councils and committees, always committed to advancing the industry.

They have continuously supported initiatives such as the Innovation Zone, the Dealer’s Choice Awards, CANASA member events and golf tournaments and Security Canada trade shows by promoting, participating, moderating and sourcing relevant content and speakers.

They have generously provided CANASA and Security Canada with editorial opportunities and have allocated resources to help produce show guides, buyer’s guides, membership directories and videos  — all of which has allowed CANASA to keep costs low in order to provide more value to members.
One of my first duties as Executive Director with CANASA was to participate in an interview by SP&T News in December 2015. They made a great first impression and all of my interactions with Neil, Paul and Peter since then have been nothing but collaborative and professional.

We were thrilled to renew CANASA’s partnership with SP&T earlier this year, and we are looking forward to working more closely in the future — particularly on initiatives to celebrate CANASA’s 40th anniversary in 2017. Our two organizations together only help to strengthen the incredible industry that we are part of. Congratulations to the entire SP&T team!

But don’t just take it from me, here is what past CANASA Presidents & Executive Directors have to say:

SP&T and CANASA have enjoyed a fruitful and collaborative relationship for many years. This is good for both, as well as our members and the general readership. I have no doubt that SP&T will be continuing in their fine tradition of delivering timely and relevant content. There is always something interesting to read in every issue no matter what your position is in the industry. Here is to the next 20 years!”
— Ivan Spector, CANASA National
President from 1994-1997

“As a National past President and active CANASA member during the past 20 years, I have seen a lot of change within our industry, our association and SP&T magazine. Through all the challenges, CANASA has been very fortunate to have a strong partner in SP&T News. They have become a strong voice for our industry, expanded their readership and always allow CANASA a voice. I truly look forward to each issue, and I can’t wait to see what the next decades bring. Congratulations!”
— Kim Caron, CANASA National
President from 2004-2007

“I have been involved with the association for many years and I am happy to see that CANASA has evolved to be an inclusive association, as opposed to how it was perceived back in the early years as an exclusive boys’ club. During my time on the board we had the first woman president and implemented fiscal responsibilities at the chapter level and an audit committee to work with the auditors. The work we did as board members while I was serving as the president of the association was made transparent through our partners in media, SP&T. Paul and Peter have always been there to support the events and industry issues we faced across the country such as Bill 88 in Quebec, and false alarm response policies from various jurisdictions. I believe CANASA has become an all-inclusive association in a good position to be the voice of the industry for Canada. Having SP&T as a truly Canadian media outlet helps the association bring information to its members with an understanding of the Canadian market place and its regions.”
— Frank Pietrobono, CANASA National
President from 2007–2009

SP&T News has always been a great supporter of CANASA and has always been very grateful for the strong ties between themselves and the association. I remember a time when they hosted a special annual dinner for CANASA’s National Board of Directors to thank them for their support and collaboration efforts. Past Board members will surely remember these special evenings and the great times that they shared with SP&T News staff.”
— Jean-Francois Champagne, CANASA Executive Director from 2009-2015

“I’ve had the pleasure of being involved as a volunteer with CANASA since the 1990’s and the privilege of serving as National President from 2011-2013. For the past 20 years, I’ve relied on SP&T News for content that is not available anywhere else, valuable information regarding current events, industry insights and commentary. Neil, Paul, Peter and staff at SP&T have done a great job of remaining relevant and providing on-going support to CANASA and the industry overall. CANASA has seen significant benefit from our long time partnership with SP&T and I wish them continued success for many years to come.”
— Don Budden, CANASA National
President from 2011–2013

“I have always enjoyed reading SP&T News and learning about the latest developments in our industry.  Industry insights; appointments; product and technology previews as well as informative articles continue to be a draw for Canadian security professionals. SP&T News continues to be the source for vendors to showcase electronic security solutions for a unique audience of security practitioners.  CANASA has also enjoyed a special relationship with SP&T News over the last 20 years. In fact, the CANASA Update segment continues to provide readers with the latest industry news and information. Keeping members informed and engaged is vital to our success and we appreciate the opportunity to partner with Annex Business Media to do just that.”
— Richard McMullen,
Current CANASA National President
