Alarm installer with criminal record accused of theft

An installer of home security alarms is being investigated for identity theft after an Alberta man discovered fraudulent charges on his credit card following the installation of a home security system.

An investigation by CBC News reveals that the alarm installer in question has a criminal record, but that few provinces require criminal background checks on those working in the home security business.

Richard McMullen, president of the Canadian Security Association, told CBC News there is a misconception that everyone in home security installation would have regular criminal checks.
