Tyco buys wireless security specialist Visonic for US$100 million
Tyco International Ltd. announced Thursday that it has reached an agreement to acquire Visonic Ltd. a global developer and manufacturer of electronic security systems and components, for approximately US$100 million in cash. The company says the acquisition will strengthen the wireless product and technology portfolio and market presence of the Tyco Security Products business in the intrusion security market.

IQinVision CEO steps down
IQinVision announced that long-time President and CEO, Pete DeAngelis, has stepped down from his position. Gary Sutton, a member of the company's Board of Directors, has been named interim CEO. DeAngelis will remain on the IQinVision Board of Directors.


The language of security
Several years ago, I was part of an acquisition of 1,400 monitored accounts that included a large number of Chinese-speaking accounts. The buyer knew that the base was heavily Chinese but had difficulties establishing Chinese monitoring or service for the account base.

Elk Products, a manufacturer of security and control components, announced a new interface integration from the M1 Cross Platform Control to Lutron's RadioRA 2 total home control system. The ELK-M1XSLU M1 to Lutron serial interface connects directly to the RadioRA 2 main repeater and enables the M1 to control and adjust the lighting, shades and scenes of a premise.

Honeywell and Tridium introduce Rapid Eye
Honeywell and integration software maker Tridium Inc. introduced a software tool that allows integrators and security dealers to incorporate digital video surveillance capabilities into larger building control systems.
