Retailers brace for more crime as economy worsens
Don't look for hardened criminals; this is mom and pop shoplifting

Hard times tend to bring out more crime, particularly in the retail sector. About 84 per cent of the 52 largest and fastest-growing U.S. retailers are reporting increases in theft and amateur shoplifting, according to a December 2008 study conducted by the Arlington, Va.-based Retail Industry Leaders Association.

STI gives Stopper a push
STI has released the Stopper Station, a multipurpose pushbutton meant to reduce accidental activation. The button is mushroom-shaped, has a timed delay before reset ranging from two to 60 seconds and is self-contained. The housing is constructed from polycarbonate with a stainless steel backplate, and has a lifetime guarantee.
