Identifying with Identica

Identica has seen its vascular scan technology adopted by several large Canadian organizations including the Port of Halifax. SP&T News talks to CEO Terry Wheeler about the biometrics market in Canada and how security departments view the technology once viewed as too intrusive for mass adoption.

St. Joseph's Health Care ramps up cameras

St. Joseph's has doubled the number of cameras in its facilities since it began using IndigoVision technology in 2001.

Ask the Expert: Are IP-based systems really reliable?

New customers often ask if IP-based systems are reliable. That's because video surveillance system downtime can jeopardize public safety and compromise the security of assets, operations and facilities. While infinite redundancy is theoretically achievable, you need to examine whether such a strategy would be cost effective and practical.

On deck: Coming up in the August issue of SP&T News

Installation Focus: University of Windsor
The University of Windsor has 40 major buildings, 28 parking lots and a sports stadium to secure. SP&T News looks at the IP CCTV system that was installed recently to secure those facilities. The system makes use of dark fiber strands in pre-existing locations to route the signal back to a central head end location in the campus computer center. It also offers remote monitoring from virtually any personal computer, campus wide.

Special Topic: Training for Monitoring Centres
SP&T News looks at the importance of what is done in an Emergency Response Centre (ERC). While an ERC is a "call centre" it differs in that other call centres are not making potential life and death decisions.

Company profile: Camden Door Controls

Product focus: DVRs

SP&T Integrator of the Year

The Integrator of the Year award, sponsored by Anixter Canada, is designed to recognize a security systems integrator that has demonstrated dedication, professionalism, innovation and customer service. We will consider all nominations provided they adhere to the following criteria:

The company offers security integration services, i.e. solves a customer's problem by designing, installing and implementing a solution that meets that customer's security needs.

The company operates in Canada.

The project(s) was completed for a Canadian customer.

The size of the project or cost involved is not the most important factor when we judge a winner. All companies are eligible, from the largest multi-national to an organization with less than 100 employees. Please take the time to help us recognize excellence and achievement in security.
