AT&T expands network integration services to Canada AT&T is now offering Canadian organizations a range of services designed to help them overcome hurdles as they transform their legacy networks and IT environments to the next generation of secure network technologies. The services include: network and vendor consolidation; WAN/LAN infrastructure design, procure and deploy; security policy compliance checks and remediation; data centre moves and consolidation; network and application assessments VoIP and IPT design, procure and build; telecommunications management, including international and domestic private line; customized servicing and maintenance contracts; and private network design and construction. "This past year has seen impressive growth in the networking market as well as a strong need for these types of services in Canada," says Kathleen Naasz, network integration director, AT&T Global Services Canada. On the road to convergence The hot topic of physical and IT security convergence will be the focus of the Open Security Exchange’s (OSE) joint working group and Convergence Council meeting in Arlington, VA on June 20-21. Attendees will discuss how to make merged physical and IT security solutions function, identify the components of convergence and determine the steps needed to achieve a framework for a convergence roadmap. Representatives from the Security Industry Association and the Smart Card Alliance will brief attendees on their current projects, including new standards in physical and IT security. "The convergence roadmap will
be an invaluable tool to security professionals everywhere looking to
deploy a converged solution. We welcome any one with interest in
collaborating on the roadmap to join our organization and attend the
meeting," says Gavenraj Sodhi, member of the OSE's board of directors
and director of product management for CA eTrust Security Management
Solutions. Multi-biometric ID system for Mexico election Identix and Sagem Defense Securite will collaborate to deploy a large-scale, turnkey, multi-biometric system in Mexico for the Instituto Federal Electoral to detect multiple registration and eliminate identity fraud in the Mexican national voter registry. The system will use both fingerprint and facial recognition to help ensure that each Mexican citizen is registerd only once in the national voter rolls. Eventually the program is expected to process some 72 million voters with throughput of 100,000 registrations and ID searches per day. Upon completion, the program is expected to be the largest multi-biometric identification system in the world. Identix is a subcontractor to Sagem Defense Security, the prime contractor on the program. BREAKING NEWS HID Global Corporation to Acquire Fargo Electronics Inc. Fargo Electronics Inc. announced that its board has voted unanimously to enter into a definitive merger agreement to be acquired by HID Global Corporation. The acquisition is a result of a long-standing relationship between the two security solutions companies and their decision to jointly pursue opportunities in the secure identification field. The transaction is expected to close at the end of the third quarter subject to stockholder and regulatory approval. HID is a leading supplier of contactless access control cards and readers, and other security products for corporations and government globally. HID products are sold through a global network of OEM, distribution and installer channels supported by sales, service and distribution centers in North America. Fargo Electronics is a global leader in the development of secure technologies for identity card issuance systems including secure card printer/encoders, materials and software.
