Identix and Sagem Defense Securite will collaborate to deploy a large-scale, turnkey, multi-biometric system in Mexico for the Instituto Federal Electoral to detect multiple registration and eliminate identity fraud in the Mexican national voter registry.  The system will use both fingerprint and facial recognition to help ensure that each Mexican citizen is registerd only once in the national voter rolls.  Eventually the program is expected to process some 72 million voters with throughput of 100,000 registrations and ID searches per day.  Upon completion, the program is expected to be the largest multi-biometric identification system in the world.

Electronic security demand grows
The U.S. market for electronic security products and systems will grow 6.9 percent per year to $15.5 billion in 2010, according to Electronic Security, a new study from The Freedonia Group.  Growth will be spurred by a high perceived risk of crime (from conventional violent and property crimes to white collar crimes and terrorism) and a belief that public safety officials are overburdened.

Access controls are expected to post the strongest growth, with above average growth expected for contraband detection systems and health growth for electronic security systems.  The study is available, for $4,400 (U.S.).  For more details visit www.freedoniagroup.com.
